Killingworth Lake – Little Grebe central

Had a quick walk around Killingworth lake at lunchtime in the sunshine to see if there were any early winter visitors arrived yet (last year had a good supply of goldeneye and a solitary whooper swan).

Plenty of mute swans as always and again healthy numbers of gulls – mostly black-headed but a few herring as well.

Mostly canada geese but a few greylags around the grassy areas.

Away from the car park and I came across the first of four goosander (all red-heads) suffering a bad-hair day, and a cluster of three little grebes keeping a very safe distance from me…

Further round towards the road and two more little grebes and more goosanders, including this one with an unusual amount of white on the wings (moulting?) :
