Serbian Gull

28 Jan

A quick sortie around Amble Harbour this morning and the first gull I game across was this mediterranean gull sporting some jewellery around its ankles. A quick search reveals this individual is visiting us from Serbia.

I e-mailed Antun Zeljevic who runs the particular ringing project and he’s sent me back the life history of YJU7… since being ringed in 2007 in Serbia (already an adult) this bird spends every summer in central Hungary 500km from the sea, and returns to winter on the Northumberland coast in September – mostly Amble but also recorded at Seahouses and St Mary’s Island – before returning to Hungary at the end of each March.
